The McCallie School

New Science Building
Chattanooga, TN

Having recently celebrated its centennial, The McCallie School is redefining its campus to better serve its academic and student life programs. The first significant project of this initiative is a new Science Building. Situated at a critical intersection on a steeply sloped portion of campus, this three-story, 50,000 sf facility will strengthen connections between the upper and lower campus and link the academic and residence life campus areas. In addition, the new building is designed to reinforce the emerging academic quadrangle, where it will help define the architectural vocabulary on the campus as McCallie enters its second century.

The new building will provide flexible lecture and lab facilities for chemistry, biology and physics, as well as classrooms for math and other disciplines. Four small study labs will provide students with an opportunity to conduct small, independent study projects. In addition, the building will include private faculty offices, team meeting rooms and administrative offices. The most significant feature will be an interdisciplinary lecture hall for 160, featuring tiered seating and presentation technology.
